V Ships takes action against dangerous pilot ladder winch arrangement

Herman Broers

Recently, V-ships encountered some vessels with a dangerous pilot ladder winch setup. The safety management of the company approached pilotladdersafety.com for advice, and together we came up with a solution. As can be seen from the pictures, there was no possibility to secure the ladder at intermediate length before the modifications. After modifications were made, now there is a good a arrangement to secure the ladder at intermediate length, using rolling hitch knots. A mechanical lock is in place as well.

V-ships are awaiting load testing of the new strong points and DNV approval of the new arrangement. A job well done!
